Today Tortuguero participated in the Tour de Turtles 2012. Shelldon (horrible name for a female turtle) was secured last night around 1 AM, and after being kept captive all morning while undergoing application of the radio transmitter, was finally released in view of a couple hundred people. The first satellite data should be ready by July 16th, and starting August 1st the Tour de Turtles will simultaneously track the progress of 13 turtles of varying species from 6 participating locals. I’ll be sure to keep everyone up to date on the progress of Shelldon as more info becomes available.
